Replacement Standard Washer Spindles for Basin, Wall, and Bib Taps

When a standard washer tap starts to drip or becomes stiff to operate, the spindle is usually the first component to replace. At PlumbingSales.com.au, we stock 17 standard washer tap spindles covering basin, wall, and bib tap applications — from basic unstyled brass spindles through to extended chrome and gold Easytap pairs for tiled-over wall installations.

All spindles in this range use a jumper valve washer mechanism and suit ½" BSP flange threads, making them compatible with the majority of standard Australian tap bodies. Browse the full range and order online 24/7 with fast delivery to most areas Australia-wide.

Our Standard Washer Spindle Range

Our range is organised into three groups: unstyled single spindles for like-for-like replacement, and Easytap chrome and gold pairs for styled or extended installations.

Unstyled Single Spindles — Brass and Chrome

Straightforward replacement spindles in brass or chrome, sold individually and suited to standard residential tap bodies. Available in the following sizes and types:

  • 65mm Basin Tap Set Spindle — flat sided (AW1000LF)
  • 80mm Basin Tap Set Spindle — flat sided (ST05LF)
  • 95mm Basin Tap Set Spindle — deep seat, flat sided
  • 85mm Wall Tap Spindle — flat sided (suits bath/shower wall breach)
  • Bib/Pillar Tap Spindle — flat sided (suits bib and pillar tap bodies)
  • 100mm Tap Spindle — flat sided top, chrome (ST17C)
  • 110mm Tap Spindle — flat sided top, chrome (ST18CLF)
  • 130mm Tap Spindle — flat sided top, chrome (ST21)

All unstyled spindles suit plastic, ceramic, or diecast handles with a flat-sided thermal barrier insert, and operate on a normal clockwise-close jumper valve washer mechanism.

Easytap Chrome Extended Wall Spindles — Pairs

Easytap chrome wall spindle pairs for extended wall tap installations, suited to tiled-over applications where additional length is required to bring the spindle out past the tile face. Available in a range of lengths:

  • JP125CP — 125mm extended wall spindle pair
  • JP140CP — 140mm extended wall spindle pair
  • JP150CP — 160mm extended wall spindle pair
  • JP180CP — 180mm extended wall spindle pair
  • JP210CP — 210mm extended wall spindle pair

All chrome Easytap wall spindles suit ½" BSP flange thread, standard seat recess wall breach, and cross, plastic, ceramic, or diecast handles with flat-sided thermal barrier insert.

Easytap Gold Basin and Wall Spindles — Pairs

Easytap gold spindle pairs for basin or wall tap installations where a gold finish is required to match existing tapware:

  • JP4007G — 95mm gold basin or wall spindle pair
  • JP4009G — 115mm gold basin or wall spindle pair
  • JP4011 — 120mm gold deep seat basin spindle pair
  • JP4012 — 120mm chrome deep seat basin spindle pair

Key Features & Benefits

  • Wide size range — From 65mm to 210mm, covering the most common basin, wall, and extended wall tap applications in Australian residential plumbing
  • Three finish options — Brass, chrome, and gold to suit existing tapware and handle styles
  • Pairs available — Easytap spindles are sold in hot and cold pairs, simplifying ordering and ensuring matched replacement across both taps
  • Extended lengths for tiled installations — Easytap chrome wall spindles from 125mm to 210mm are specifically designed for deep-set or tiled-over wall tap installations
  • Deep seat options — Basin spindles available in standard seat and deep seat configurations to suit different tap body depths
  • Standard jumper valve mechanism — All spindles use the familiar clockwise-close jumper valve washer system compatible with most Australian standard tap bodies

Choosing the Right Standard Washer Spindle

Identify your tap type first. The correct spindle depends on whether your tap is a basin tap set, a wall tap (bath/shower breach), or a bib/pillar tap. These require different spindle bodies — always confirm before ordering.

Measure the existing spindle length. Remove the existing spindle and measure from the bottom of the flange thread to the top of the stem. Match this length to the closest option in the range. For tiled-over wall taps, the Easytap extended range (125mm–210mm) covers the most common tiled-depth scenarios.

Standard seat vs deep seat. Basin tap bodies come in standard seat and deep seat configurations. A standard seat spindle will not seat correctly in a deep seat body — check your existing spindle before ordering. Deep seat options are available at 95mm (unstyled) and 120mm (Easytap JP4011/JP4012).

Finish matching. Unstyled brass spindles are hidden inside the tap body and finish is not visible. For Easytap pairs, chrome or gold finish on the spindle stem should match your tap handles and flanges. Browse our tap handles and flanges range if you need to replace handles at the same time.

Single vs pair. Unstyled spindles are sold individually and suit single tap replacement or mixed hot/cold replacement. Easytap spindles are sold as hot and cold pairs — the correct approach when replacing both spindles in a set.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a standard washer tap spindle?

A standard washer tap spindle (also called a jumper valve spindle) is the internal mechanism of a traditional tap that controls water flow. It uses a rubber washer on a jumper valve that presses against the seat to stop water flow when the tap is closed. When this washer or spindle wears out, the tap drips or becomes hard to turn.

What's the difference between a standard washer spindle and a ceramic disc spindle?

A standard washer spindle uses a rubber washer that physically presses against a brass seat — it requires multiple turns to open and close. A ceramic disc spindle uses two ceramic discs that rotate a quarter-turn to control flow. Standard washer spindles are found in older tap bodies; ceramic disc spindles are common in more modern tapware. See our ceramic disc spindles range if you have a quarter-turn tap.

How do I know which spindle length I need?

Remove the existing spindle and measure from the bottom of the flange thread to the top of the stem. Match this measurement to the closest size in the range. For wall taps set into tiled walls, you will likely need an extended spindle — the Easytap JP range covers 125mm to 210mm.

Can I replace just one spindle or do I need to replace both?

For basin and wall tap sets, replacing both hot and cold spindles at the same time is recommended, even if only one is currently faulty. Spindles in a matched pair wear at similar rates, and replacing one now typically means replacing the other shortly after. Easytap pairs are sold as hot and cold sets for this reason.

Are these spindles compatible with all tap brands?

These spindles are compatible with most Australian standard tap bodies that use a ½" BSP flange thread and a flat-sided handle fitting. They are not brand-specific — compatibility depends on matching the correct length, seat type, and flange thread rather than the tap brand name.

Can I install a tap spindle myself?

Replacing a tap spindle is a common DIY repair for a dripping tap. Turn off the water supply at the isolating valve or mains, remove the tap handle and flange, unscrew the existing spindle, and replace with the new one. If you're unsure, a licensed plumber can complete the job quickly. For wall taps set in tiled walls, extended spindle replacement can be more involved — consider professional assistance if access is restricted.
