Nylon Olive Compressions
A nylon olive compression fitting is composed of an outer compression nut, and an inner compression ring or ferrule, which they call an ‘olive’. In this particular fitting, the olive is nylon. It works by tightening the nut with a spanner and a pair of grips. When this happens it exerts pressure on the olive which bites it onto the pipe to create the seal. With a nylon olive you don't have to tighten the nut as much for an effective seal. One important thing to note is that these fittings shouldn't be used on hot water lines, because they can melt.
